Dining at La Parare

Usually we host dinners (table d’hôtes – everyone eating together) about once a week, subject to demand, with no fixed day.

Everything is homemade and the cuisine is best described as Mediterranean. We are not chefs, but we truly enjoy good food and wine paired with lively conversation and plenty of laughter! In summer dinner is served on the terrace beneath the olive tree; in winter, indoors by the fire.

When possible, and when there is no table d’hôtes, we can arrange personalised dinners. If you are interested, just let us know. The same applies if you would like a nice bottle or flowers in your room on arrival for a special occasion.

In the garden you will find an “honesty bar” stocked with various drinks and snacks, plus plates, cutlery and everything needed for a picnic. There is also a fridge at your disposal to keep things cool.

  • Table d’hôtes: dinner shared around one table with a set menu. No fixed day of the week.
  • If you are interested, please tell us when booking the room. We do not run a restaurant and therefore keep no stock; we organise based on demand and what is possible.
  • Prices: €40 – 50 per person (all food and drinks included).
  • Please inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions in advance.
  • A minimum of 6 guests is required.
  • Please note that we have no staff on site, which has its advantages but also some limitations.

Restaurants

We keep a curated list of restaurants that we have tried and tested. We are glad to help you find good spots that fit your plans for the day.

The swimming pool at La Parare

We have built a lovely saltwater pool on the terrace.

It is entirely in stone and includes special features, such as a resistance jet stream so you can swim against the current.

As soon as the weather warms up and thoughts turn from fireplaces to swimming and sunbathing, we begin heating the pool.

Sauna and massage

We also have a sauna available during the cooler months—Karin is Swedish, after all, and no self-respecting Swede would be without one!

We can also arrange a wonderful massage here at La Parare.

Please let us know well in advance if you would like this service.

A Fireplace in your Room

La Parare is one of the very few B&B’s that has a functioning fireplace in each of the rooms that can be used during the cold season. Two rooms have fireplaces for open wood fires and two rooms have bioethanol fireplaces, which are easier to use.

How wonderful to come home, open a bottle of wine, and spend some quality time in front of the fire with your special one.

However, the fireplaces are really just for ambiance because the house’s main source of warmth is electric heaters, so when it is cold outside, you’ll be nice and toasty!

During the summer there are restrictions on the use of fireplaces due to the risk of wild fires.

Piano

If you play the piano, bring your sheet music and perform classical, jazz or any entertaining music on our grand piano. It sits in our living room, and thanks to the vaulted ceiling the acoustics are absolutely superb.

Cycling

As most cyclists know, the area around Nice offers unique riding opportunities: Col de Turini, the Grande Corniche between Nice and Menton (Italy), Col de la Madone, Col de Braus, Col d’Eze and Villefranche, Col de la Bonette, Col de Vence—the list goes on.

With Paris–Nice passing right in front of our house, B&B La Parare is ideally placed for any cyclist keen to make the most of what this region offers. The cycling season is long and the roads are of very good quality and plentiful, so you avoid the crowds found in some other popular cycling areas.

  • La Parare is an old stone house in a small village, with plenty of space around it and secure parking for treasured bikes.
  • Laundry service is available (24h).
  • La Parare accommodates 8 – 10 people in double rooms; breakfast is included and special dietary needs can generally be catered for.
  • For groups, dinners can be arranged and we can also help with restaurant bookings.
  • We speak French, English, Dutch, Swedish and German.

Inflatable canoe

We have an inflatable canoe that seats two. It packs into a handy backpack, so you can take it to one of the beaches and, after about 10 minutes of pumping, be out on the water away from the crowds. At last you can enjoy a view of some of the beautiful villas lining the coast.

What to see and do

There is plenty to see and do within an hour's drive of our house. Whether you fancy charming coastal towns and villages, medieval mountain villages, museums, gardens, hiking or cycling (we have electric bikes for rent), or tennis courts within 20 minutes, it is all here. There are also a number of famous events, such as the Classic Grand Prix and F1 in Monaco, the tennis grand prix in Monaco, the Nice and Cannes yacht shows—and the list goes on.

Here are some of the possibilities: http://www.cotedazur-tourisme.com (general site)

You also have to know that you are allowed to do nothing which is nowadays the ultimate luxury!

That means on warmer days lying in the shade of an olive tree with a good book (link picture). On colder days, the same book in front of your open fire in the room with a nice glass of red. Mind you, winter weather often lets you spend a couple of hours in the sun during the day, sitting outside on one of the sheltered terraces with—again—that same book.

Whenever you like—often right after breakfast—we show you everything this beautiful and rich area has to offer. We share the best insider tips, lend you maps and provide homemade drawings that make finding your way very easy. We also have plenty of guides in various languages: hiking guides, cycling guides, museum guides, beach guides and more. We advise on restaurants that have mostly already been tested for you, and we can book for you if you wish.

The list below is simply to give you an idea of the options available, along with approximate distances—it is definitely not a tourist guide. There is lots more!

Spacebetween can help you discover the Mercantour national park, a paradise for all who love nature, the outdoors and all the activities that go with it.

You will find an amazing landscape, just an hour's drive from Nice.

The French Riviera is fantastic, but this nature reserve is simply magic.

Some need drugs to get away from it all; others go to the Mercantour!

When decorating our house we made a real effort to find good-quality, innovative materials.

We are very fond of the waxed concrete used in the bathrooms and on the kitchen counter. It can be described as a modern version of tadelakt and can be applied to most types of material. It is easy to maintain and you can do it yourself.

Océan à la Ciotat is our supplier.

Their products are available in the whole of France and also in Amsterdam.

Miniweek: Book a MINI Cooper or another nice convertible. Miniweek will have it waiting for you just outside the arrivals hall at the airport or the train station, with the GPS already programmed with La Parare's address. No more waiting at the car rental desk.
